I'm a Nut BUT in a good way

Morgan McNeal here, Fitness lover and Nutritionist.  I am a little crazy too when it comes to fitness and nutrition, hence my name - Morgan Fit Nut! I can go a little nuts when I am not focusing on my health.  I can get pretty mopey if I miss a few days of working out and also you do not want to be around me when I have eaten absolute shit for a week.  I know this about myself and therefore, I do the best I can to ensure I follow a healthy diet and work out most days.  With those habits, I have also become quite the SME in both of those areas, not claiming to know everything, but through my experiences, I can tell you I know a ton about fitness and nutrition.  SME is subject matter expert in case you don’t feel like googling that acronym.

First, fitness.  My mom has been a fitness instructor my whole life.  With a background in dance, she has taught everything from step aerobics to Yoga to Tai Chi.  As soon as the gym would allow me to attend her classes (age 15), I began to develop a passion for exercise.  I played sports throughout high school and college.  After college though, is when I really started to pursue fitness activities and realized my passion. I became a Les Mills certified RPM instructor and a certified Pilates instructor. I also started to pursue more races and other activities I had never done. I first completed sprint triathlons and longer distance races, 5 mile races, then half marathons. In 2011, I completed my first Olympic triathlon and also completed my first marathon. I ran the Chicago marathon in 3:56, just 4 minutes shy of breaking 4 hours, which was my ultimate goal.  Since then, I am constantly mixing up my fitness routine, have done Crossfit for a few years, Orangetheory, Barre, Bikram, Stair climber classes, you name the activity, I have tried it.  I like challenging my body and enjoy that feeling I have after a good workout.

Second: nutrition I not only enjoy fitness, but I focus a lot on nutrition because after all, you need food for fuel.  I have experimented with a variety of diets from low fat to low carb to Paleo to Keto to Zone to EWIW – that acronym may not come up in google, so I will give you a hint – the first “W” is whatever and the second one is want, hah!  Through all these different diets, I cannot say one is better than the other.  What I can say is eating is a very individualized thing and what works for me may not work for you.  I will say though that eating clean unprocessed food is the way to go.

So there, I love fitness and food and can be a little cray when those things are not going as intended.  But I also want to share what I am learning along the way about my mind and body through all these fitness and food experiments.

Oh….. and I also have a Master’s of Science in Nutrition and am working on my CNS (Certified Nutrition Specialist) in case you wanted more credentials. :)
