Recap of CGM Experience

Week 3 & 4 Recap using the Levels CGM

DAILY USE

After Day 14, I did have to replace my CGM.  It was fairly easy to remove and replace. Off to the races for week 3 and 4!

STATS FROM WEEK 3 and WEEK 4

Week 3

Metabolic Score = 91%

Zone Score = 9

Worst Scoring Meal: 4/10 – Kashi cereal with unsweetened almond milk

Blood Glucose Peak:  118 mg/dl

Week 4

Metabolic Score = 89%

Zone Score = 8

Worst Scoring Meal: 1/10

Blood Glucose Peak:  118 mg/dl

At the end of the 28th day, I removed my CGM.  I really enjoyed seeing real-time data of how various foods were affecting my blood sugar levels.

MY 5 TAKEAWAYS

1.   Red wine did not spike my blood sugar.  I did only consume one glass and it was with a protein-rich meal so not sure what 3 glasses would have done on an empty stomach.

2.   Sweet potatoes spiked my blood sugar more than I thought they would.  I consumed them in week 2 and then not again for the next 2 weeks.

3.   Blood sugar levels spike A LOT during my high-intensity workouts – which is to be expected because my body needs that glucose to get through the workout.

4.   Paleo protein bars (no added sugar) did not spike my blood sugar.  Although not a staple in my diet, it was good to see when in a pinch, these are not a terrible option.

5.   Coffee had very minimal impact on my blood sugar – all I put in my coffee is unsweetened almond milk.

MONTHLY REPORT

At the end of the 28 days, Levels sends you a personalized monthly report detailing a variety of data – Metabolic fitness trend, high glucose events, activity catalog summary, zone score trends, top scoring meals and bottom scoring meals (with associated change in glucose), average glucose trend, and time in target range trend.  You can see from the stats below, I am in the top 25% of users which obviously makes me very happy.

NEXT STEPS

I think CGM use for personal health use is gaining popularity.  There are still a lot of regulations on the CGM because it is a device that is inserted into the body.  I did find another brand, Veri, that I am going to test out and see how it compares to Levels. Stay tuned for my next report!
